Mark Your Calendar for 2024 Grain Grading Schools & Grain Law Roundtables

Are you looking to obtain your Commodity Tester Certificate? Or, do you already have your Commodity Tester Certificate and need to renew it? This Grain Grading School – approved by the Ohio Department of Agriculture – is structured to provide certification/recertification opportunities. OABA has confirmed the following dates for those seeking to obtain or renew an ODA-approved Commodity Tester Certificate. 

Grain Grading Schools offered in 2024:

  • June 5 - McComb High School, 328 Todd St.McComb, OH 45858
  • July 18 - OSU Wooster - Skou Hall 100, 1889 Garrison Circle W, Wooster, Ohio 44691
  • August 29 - Grace Lutheran Church, 1801 Saint Paris Pike, Springfield, Ohio 45504
  • September 11 - Ohio Department of Agriculture, 8995 E Main St, Reynoldsburg, OH 43068

The Grain Grading Course will provide training in the procedures for grading corn, soybeans and wheat, as well as sampling and equipment. Immediately following the course, individuals seeking certification will take an open-book exam consisting of 50 questions. Those seeking recertification receive the same training and sign a verification of attendance form. Instruction is provided by Eurofins Grain Inspection. Once again, OABA will offer a Test-only option for individuals seeking recertification. 

Recertification Test-Only Option 

Need the test but don't want to drive to ODA? For your convenience, OABA is offering Test-Only options for individuals needing to renew their Commodity Tester Certificate, without sitting through the full Grain Grading School. The Test-Only options is available for $10 on the same dates as listed above for Grain Grading School. Test-Only individuals are advised to arrive no later than 12:15 pm for the 12:30 pm test.

Ohio Grain Law Roundtables

Grain managers, merchandisers and others with interest can attend a Roundtable Discussion with the Ohio Department of Agriculture’s Inspection Administrator – David Simmons. This coffee-talk style discussion will allow for a review and discussion of Ohio Grain Law with ample time for questions and answers. The event is free, but an RSVP is requested. Each roundtable will take place from 10 am to 12 pm.
